Had an opportunity today before the lunch and afternoon sessions to explore the campus of UPitt at Johnstown, PA, during Vegetarian Summerfest 2013.
It’s a beautiful campus with paved trails winding through mature trees. All of the buildings match and are detailed with stonework and timber framing. It’s a very nice campus and they have been wonderful hosts to the vegan event for decades.
Sessions today included “The 30-Day Unprocessed Challenge” which was led by the very dynamic duo of Chef AJ and John Pierre. Learned how to take my vegan diet one step further by avoiding S.O.S. (sugar, oil, salt). Of course, this would mean I would have to eliminate the very cornerstone of my diet: French fries. So, it’s probably not going to happen.
Then, at 4:00, I went to “Raw Food for Smart Busy People” with Cherie Soria. She shared her own daily meals that include a huge green drink in the morning. Whatever she does, it’s working. She’s 66 and she looks 46.
Tomorrow (July 4) I am looking forward to Milton Mills, MD and my friend Sherry Colb as she discusses questions to vegans including, “Mind if I Order the Cheeseburger?”
So far, Summerfest is proving to be that sense of community wrapped around a strong common bond. Looking forward to the rest of the week (and the vegan DJ dance party that is about to start)!
